Mangalore : Customs officials seize foreign cigarettes worth Rs 83,000 at airport

 Mangalore, Feb 16, 2013 : Foreign made cigarettes packed in 83 cartons and valued at Rs 83000 were seized by customs officials at the Mangalore International Airport on February 15, Friday. Three passengers have been detained in this connection.


Foreign cigerrets

Those arrested are  Shaidu Manakkad.Thekke Peedikayil and Moideenkunhi Bangarakunnu Abdulla from Kasargod and Kunhikoya Thangal from Bantwal.


All the three had arrived at the Mangalore airport by an Air India Express Flight from Dubai.


A  press release from D Purushottam, Commissioner of Mangalore Customs said the  cigarette packets were seized as they did not bear  statutory pictorial health warning as prescribed under Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Packaging and Labelling) Rules, 2008 and the amendment rules 2009.
