Mangalore, Sep 25, 2014 : Mangalore Dasara celebrations at the Sri Gokarnanatha Temple at Kudroli commenced with grandeur and religious fervour on September 25, Thursday in the presence of dignitaries. The idol of Goddess Sharada and the Navadurgis were installed at the Temple on the first day of Navaratri.
Mangalore Mayor Mahabala Maarla lighted the traditional lamp to mark the inaugural of the festivities. Ramesh Kumar, businessman and his wife Urmila Ramesh Kumar graced the occasion among others. The Temple Committee office bearers and members were also present.
The idols of Navadurgis namely Kooshmandini, Chandraghanta,Brahmacharini, Shailaputri, Adi Shakti, Mahagowri,Sidhidhatri, Mahakali, Katyayini and Skandamata have been installed and are attracting large number of people as usual.
Harikrishna Bantwal who spoke on the occasion, said the Mangalore Dasara celebrations of the Temple is a splendid display of harmony and unity when devotees not only from the city but from across the nation throng the shrine to be a part of the festivities.
The Gokarnanatha Hall where the idols have been installed has been tastefully decorated while the entire temple which is illuminated presents a whole new world.
The festivities will conclude with a grand and mesmerizing Shobhayatra on October 4, featuring several tableaux apart from the idols of Goddess Sharada, Mahaganapathi and Navadurgis.
