Mangalore, December 18: The Diocese of Mangalore will organize a 5-day “Mega Bible Exhibition” on the campus of Milagres Junior college in Mangalore as a fitting end to the Year of Convention of the Faithful celebrations, which commenced on Jan 4, 2009 and will conclude on Jan 3, 2010 with the Diocesan Eucharistic procession.
The Mega Bible Exhibition will be organized from Dec 30, 2009 to Jan 3, 2010, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday. The motto of the exhibition is “Bible in my hand, Bible in my heart.”
More that 250 versions of the Bible in 50 different languages, including the world’s smallest Bible, will be displayed at the Mega Bible Exhibition. A mega Bible map, extending to about 400 square feet, will be displayed with all the different biblical locations marked on it. Sacred articles from the Holy Land, such as the black mud of the Dead Sea, the fruits of the Sycamore tree, which Zacchaeus climbed in order to have a glimpse of Jesus Christ, and so on will also be exhibited.
Other highlights of the Mega Bible Exhibition are a live show of cribs; a presentation of 25 Biblical heroines such as Ruth and Sarah; 500 wall pictures and thermocol designs based on Biblical themes; puppet shows, bands, songs, dances, skits, and dramas based on the Bible; over 50 colorful comics based on Biblical personalities and events; Biblical films, documentaries, slides, clippings, and PP presentations on jumbo LCDs; shadow plays, mobile pictures, animations, and sound and light effects to illustrate the story of the creation, the parables and the miracles of Jesus, transfiguration of Jesus, and the death and resurrection of Jesus; artistic presentations of the Kings and Prophets as well as the miracles, mysteries, and teachings of Jesus; a mega Bible tree and a Christmas tree; colorful placards and posters bearing popular Biblical quotations; items depicting the times and culture of the New and Old Testaments, including Biblical vessels and costumes; Bible competitions and quizzes with instant prizes; works of art based on Biblical themes by renowned artists such as Philip D’Mello, Jyothi Sahi, Peter Lewis, and so on as well as the children of different parishes; Bible-based entertainment by different troupes of artistes; information on the background, history, geography as well answers to questions such as “Why doesn’t the Dead Sea flow?”; and many more.
In addition, the event will present snacks, meals, and soft drinks at discounted rates, a large car-parking space, information and health counters, as well as 300 volunteers to cater to the requirements of the visitors.
The event will commence on Dec 30, 2009, with a colorful Bible procession. The Bishop of Mangalore will inaugurate the Mega Bible Exhibition at 10 a.m. At 6:30 p.m., different YCS units will present Bible entertainment. A talents’ show will be organized on Jan 1, 2010, Friday, at 4:30 p.m. On Jan 2, 2010, Saturday, at 6:30 p.m., various parishes and institutions will organize a variety entertainment.
Fr. Dr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza, the bishop of Mangalore; Fr. Basil Vas; and Fr. Lawrence D’Souza are the director, convener, and campus convener of the Mega Bible Exhibition, respectively.
Stalls will be set up by the Apostolic Carmel, Ursulines, Charity, Bethany, SRA, Roshni Nilaya and Pauline congregations of religious women; Capuchins, Carmelites, Jesuits, Dominicans and Diocesan priests, ICYM, YCS, DCCW, AICUF, Jesus Youth, Mangala Jyothi, Canara Communication Centre, Jeppu Seminary, Milagres Junior College, Padua Junior College, Fr Muller’s Hospital, Raknno, Pietro, Orchid Art Gallery, and so on.
Several religious as well as lay units have extended their support for the success of this mega event.
