Mangalore, Dec 10, 2012: The Fourth Global Konkani Music Awards were presented at a colourful function held at Kalaangann Shaktinagar on December 9, Sunday, under the aegis of Mandd Sobhann, the premiere Konkani cultural organization.
Armando Gonsalves, CEO of Heritage Jazz, Goa who was the chief guest, said Mandd Sobhann was doing a commendable job in protecting and promoting Konkani culture and wished it would continue its endeavour for many more years to come.
Gurukiran noted Kannada singer and music director, who was also present as a chief guest, said the ceremony has been organized in a splendid manner just like the Filmfare award presentation ceremony. He also entertained the audience with a Konkani song.
Stany Alvares, President of Mandd Sobhann, presided over the function. Gurukiran handed over the awards including a cash prize of Rs 25,000 to the winners. The winners were also honoured by Armando Gonsalves.
Lavita Lobo from Mangalore received The Best Singer Female 2011 Award for ‘Ye Raja’ song from Xetam Merer album. The Best Singer Male 2011 Award went to Butto from Odisha who lives in Bangalore for ‘Mhaka Kollana’ song from Vozrah Motiam album.
The Best Music Composer 2011 Award was received by Roshan D’Souza Angelore for ‘Pavsilya Disanim’ song from Xetam Merer. Late Chafra D’Costa won Best Lyricist 2011 for Vozram Motiam and Cajethan Dias (Honnavar), Bangalore the Best Music Arranger 2011 for Vozram Motiam. Ivan Lobo and Ye Mana Team won the Best Music Album 2011 award for his ‘Xetam Merer’ album.
Mandd Sobhann had received a total of 126 applications for the awards.
Eric Ozario, Gurkar of Mandd Sobhann, Steven Dias, Louis J Pinto, Roy Castelino, Titus Noronha, Vitori Karkal, Fr Pius James and others were present on the occasion.
Queenie Fernandes and Akash, Rani and Rai Kogull of Soad-3 International entertained the audience with their songs. Nach Sobhann team presented a dance programme.
