Mangalore, Nov 9, 2013 : A mock drill to test the abilities and alertness of the Garuda Force Commandos in the event of an emergency or a terror attack, was held at Pandeshwar in Mangalore on November 8, Friday.
Commandos of the Garuda Force under the Centre for Counter-Terrorism, Bangalore conducted the mock drill and demonstrated how they would handle hostage situations, save lives and provide medical care to victims of terror attacks.
As part of the mock drill, two ‘ultras’ had held hostage three men in a half constructed building. The commando operation led to the shooting down of one of the ultras while the other ultra was injured. The ultras inside the building had earlier demanded a ransom of Rs 10 crore and also the release of IM co-founder Yasin Bhatkal.
The hostages were rescued by the commandos after Police force led by Western Range IGP Pratap Reddy rushed to the spot.School children and public watched the mock drill with great interest.
Speaking at a function held at Rosario Hall here on November 8, Friday, IGP Pratap Reddy said the Garuda Force Commandos who are in the city are conducting workshop for police personnel under Western Range. He said the Garuda Force in Bangalore had 106 trained commandos.
