Mangalore, Jan 26,2013 : A Half Marathon and a 10 km Run will be organised as part of the second edition of the Nitte Celebration Run organised by Life Is Calling (LIC) sports and Dakshina Kannada Athletic Association (DKAA) at Mangala Stadium in Mangalore on February 24.
Around 4000 runners from across the country including a few international runners are expected to take part.
The Nitte Education Trust is the official sponsor and Corporation Bank is the associate sponsor of the event.
Speaking to reporters, PB Mithra, Director of Life Is Calling said the Nitte Celebration Run has both competitive and non-competitive running categories.In the competitive category there will be a 21 km half marathon, 10 km run and 5 km run for college students (boys and girls) and 3 km run for high school students (boys and girls).
In the non-competitive category, there will be a celebration run/walk. Participation certificates will be given to all the participants, he said. The registration fee for half marathon and 10 km run is Rs 700 and Rs 500 respectively.
The cash prizes for the top three winners in the open category (15-45 years) for 21 km half marathon for men and women will be Rs 30,000, Rs 20,000 and Rs 15,000 respectively. Winners in senior category (46-60 years) and veteran category (above 60 years) will also receive cash prizes.
The organisers have also announced special cash prizes for runners from Dakshina Kannada participating in the open category in both the 21 km half marathon and 10 km run and the first three winners (men and women) will receive cash prizes of Rs 10,000, Rs 5000 and Rs 2500 respectively. All the finishers in the above category will get medals while top ten finishers will receive cash prizes in 5 km and 3 km runs.
Dr Rajashekar M, Registrar of Nitte University, John D’Souza, Deputy General Manager of Corporation Bank, Manjunath Bhandary, President of DKAA Manjunath and athletes Anand Shetty and Vandana Shanbagh were present at the press meet.
