Mangalore, May 31, 2010: The Nehru Yuva Kendra in association with the Centre for Integrated Learning(CIL), Rotary Club of Mangalore Sunrise and Rotaract Club of Mangalore City staged an awareness program on 30th May at Kadri Park to mark the World No Tobacco Day which is observed on  31 May 2010.

The presentation at Kadri Park started off with a rally with the members of the Centre for Integrated Learning along with Rotarians, students of Fr. Muller’s Nursing college and the public leading the way with anti-smoking placards. District Governor Rotarian Dr Devdas Rai said that the purpose of the observance of this day was to kick the bad habit and to stop it from spreading to the younger generation. Key Speaker  Dr Ravish Thunga emphasized on the need to follow up with the anti-smoking efforts instead of just bringing it to mind on this particular day.


Rotarian Blanny Fernandes, President of Rotary Club of Mangalore Sunrise, welcomed the gathering. Street plays were put up by the NSS Unit of students from Fr Muller’s College of Nursing as well as the NGO, Nele, to reiterate the message of the dangers of tobacco usage.


Sachita Nandagopal, Executive Director of CIL, Dr Jacintha DSouza, Principal of Fr Muller’s College of Nursing and Vice Principal Dr Mariette D’Silva, Dinesh Kodialbail, President of Rotaract Club of Mangalore City were present on this occassion. With the good number of spectators that gathered to witness the program at the Kadri Park, it goes without saying that the awareness has surged ahead.
