Mangalore, Feb 16, 2013 : The renovated Kudroli Jamia Masjid was inaugurated by Union Minister for Minority Affairs K Rahman Khan on February 16, Saturday.
The new building of the masjid has been built at a cost of Rs 4.5 crore in Mughal architectural style and resembles the Delhi Jamia Masjid. The building has minarets of a height of 134 feet and has attractive domes and arcs.
In his inaugural address, the Minister exhorted the Muslim community to put up a united front and was appreciative of the unification of the two jamaats which were running two separate masjids in the area.
Urging the community to follow the ideals propagated in Quran and Prophet Mohammad, he said apart from being devout, one must also devote time to serve humanity.
Moulana Mufti Mohammed Ashraf Ali Baquai, Member, All India Muslim Personal Law Board, Ameer-e-Shariath, Karnataka State, and Vice-President, All India Milli Council hoped that the new masjid would promote greater co-operation and understanding.
KS Mohammad Masood, President, Jamia Masjid Kudroli Committee, said in his introductory remarks that the two mosques earlier known as ‘Jodu Palli’ were built during the times of Tipu Sultan.The second mosque was built in the later years due to lack of space in the earlier mosque. The two mosques then started functioning under two Jamaaths.
He said it was in 2006 during his chairmanship of Karnataka State Minorities Commission that the idea of merging the mosques and jamaaths was floated and subsequently approved by the Wakf Board.
N Yogish Bhat, Deputy Speaker, in his address, hoped that the religious shrines would also render services to the weaker sections of the society.
The ambulance service of the new masjid was also inaugurated by the Minister.
Several dignitaries including BA Moidin, former minister, Vijaykumar Shetty, former MLA, Ivan D’Souza, KPCC Secretary, UT Khader, MLA, Thwaka Ahmed Musliyar, Mangalore Qazi, Mohammed Obaidulla Sharief, Member, National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language, Government of India, Abdul Azeez Kudroli, former corporator of Kudroli, Y Abdulla Kunhi, President, Zeenath Baksh Jumma Masjid and Idgah Masjid, Mangalore, S A Khaleel, Chief Secretary, Jamia Masjid Kudroli Committee and others were present.
