Mangalore, Mar 23, 2013: The renovated century old ‘Aloyseum’ the museum of St Aloysius College, Mangalore, was inaugurated by Fr Joseph Rodrigues, Rector, St Aloysius Institutions, at a function held on March 23, Saturday. Fr Joseph led the prayers held on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Fr Swebert D’Silva, Principal of the College, said that the institution has spent as much as Rs 75 to Rs 80 lakhs for the renovation. He said though an appeal had been made to the government, funds were released only for restoration of museum articles and not for building renovation.
He said the museum will be converted into ‘Mangalore Museum’ to help visiting students know about the culture, customs and traditions of the land.
Fr. Leo D’Souza, veteran scientist and former principal of the College, said articles of historical importance found in museums will give ample scope for learning.
Fr. Denzil Lobo, Director, Aloysius Institute of Management and IT (AIMIT), Prof. A M Narahari, Registrar, St Aloysius College, Mangalore, Gopal Gowda, caretaker of the museum, and others were present.
