Mangalore, Dec 10, 2012: The Royal Challengers-KSCA Cricket Academy  was inaugurated by Dr. M Shantharam Shetty, Pro-Chancellor, Nitte University, at the Sahyadri College campus at Adyar  on December 10, Monday. The Academy will be equipped with modern facilities including international standard cricketing infrastructure, turf wickets and bowling machine. Even coaches will be appointed to train the youngsters.
 
The star attractions of the function were Anil Kumble, President of Karnataka State Cricket Association, Javagal Srinath, former Indian pacer and the Honorary Secretary of the Association and Syed Kirmani, former Indian wicket keeper.

The foundation laying ceremony of the  proposed cricket pavilion, was  held on the same occasion. Turf wickets, the first of such kind in Mangalore, were also inaugurated. The Sahyadri College Management has leased out the land to KSCA for three years during which the land will be maintained by the Association.

Speaking at a function held in this connection, P Dayananda Pai, Chairman of Century Group,  said Mangalore needed an  international standard cricket stadium and added it could be constructed provided the 25 acre land needed for the same was provided.

Dr Shantharam Shetty said  Mangalore which excelled in various fields like education and banking, however did not have adequate infrastructural facilities to promote the game of cricket and hoped the new Academy would strive in that direction.

Later, participating in an interactive session, Srinath spoke on the objectives of the  Cricket Academy  and added  modern methods including video technology would be adopted to analyse the performance of the children trained by the Academy. He said the Academy would coach youngsters  during four days in a week, from Monday to Thursday. Steps would be taken to see that the coaching did not affect the studies of the students, he added.

Mangalore Police Commissioner Manish Kharbikar, Deputy Commissioner N Prakash, Dr. Srikanth Rai, President of DKCA, Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman of Bhandary Foundation, and others were present.
