Mangalore, Dec 23, 2012: The rich language of Tulu with all its credentials is yet to get its due honour and recognition, said Malar Jayaram Rai, senior journalist.
Speaking after receiving the ‘Chavadi Sanmana’ on the occasion of the 12th Chavadi Koota of the Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy at the Academy hall on December 22, Saturday, he said all Tuluvas were now eagerly awaiting the inclusion of Tulu in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution. He also urged the media to work towards this direction.
The theme of the Chavadi Koota was ’Media’s Contribution to the Development of Tulu Literature and Culture’.
Another senior journalist Anand Shetty who also spoke, urged Tuluvas to put up a united show and oppose the proposed Netravathi diversion project.
U K Kumarnath, Resident Editor of Mangalore Bureau of Vijaya Karnataka said even Mangalore Akashvani is contributing in its own way to promote Tulu language.
PB Harish Rai, Kiran Manjanabailu, Presidents of the DK District and Udupi District Working Journalists’ Unions respectively, Balakrishna Puttige, Dayasagar Chowta, journalists, also aired their views.
Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy President Umanath Kotian presided over the function. He said the Academy has plans to take a delegation to the Prime Minister and discuss the demand to include Tulu in Eighth Schedule of Constitution.
