Mangalore, Dec 7, 2012: Seminary Day 2012 was celebrated at St Joseph’s Seminary, Jeppu in Mangalore on December 6, Thursday. There was a Thanksgiving Eucharist which was presided over by Fr Joseph Martis, Rector.
The St Joseph’s Seminary in its 134 years of existence has trained 2026 priests who have rendered services in various parts of the nation as well as overseas.
Dr Varghese Chakkalakal, Bishop of Calicut Diocese, presided over the public function held in the evening. In his address, Dr Varghese said the Seminary should serve as a guiding light to the people of faith and goodwill.
On this occasion, Rev. Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, Bishop of Mangalore, launched the website of the Seminary www. stjosephseminarymangalore.org. ‘Unitas-2012’ the annual magazine of the Seminary was released by the Udupi Bishop Rev Gerald Isaac Lobo.
Fr Joseph Martis, Rector, gave a report on the activities of the Seminary and informed that 231 students from 29 Dioceses and 10 religious congregations were presently undertaking their studies at the Seminary. The weekend theology classes are attended by 42 members of the laity, he informed.
“Pastor’s Pet” an English play presented on the occasion, won applause from the audience. A variety of entertainment programmes were also presented by the Seminarians.
