Mangalore, Sep 5, 2014: Speaking on the occasion of Teachers’ Day Celebrations hosted by DK Zilla panchayat and education department at Town Hall on September 5, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, said, " To build a great nation, the contribution of teachers is vital, it is not possible by politicians or officials alone to achieve well being ".
Addressing the teachers, he said further "the education system introduced by the British has under gone a lot of meddling from outside and inside. But the system has become commercial today and this needs to change."
Speaking on the occasion MLC Ivan D’Souza said "All teachers can play an important role in preventing and pacifying communal clashes in all areas. It would be better if the DC calls in teachers for emergency meetings in such situations along with the police and the politicians, in time of such communal outbreaks, those who are involved in disturbance do not listen to the police or the politicians, but they will certainly listen to the teachers who have a place in their past ."
In his address, J R Lobo, MLA mentioned that, “India cannot not become developed nation with agriculture alone. A better human resource is an important factor. For this, education is essential and all teachers have a major role,"
Mayor Mahabala Maarla said, “Now a days one comes across wrongs committed by teachers. This should not happen and facts should not be distorted."
Over fifty retired teachers were felicitated on the occasion. Raghav D, retired teacher and Herald M Monteiro, retired headmaster of Milagres School spoke on the occasion.
The programme included an hour-long Yakshagana performance and other cultural programmes.
Certificates were distributed to schools which secured cent percent results in the SSLC exams.
Vasudeva Rao and Raghav D were honoured for receiving district best teachers award. The attendance was enthusiastic and a good atmosphere was noticed.
