Mangalore, Nov 20, 2013: The prestigious Indira Gandhi National Service Scheme Best University Award 2012-13 was conferred on Mangalore University by President Pranab Mukherjee at a ceremony held at The Rashtrapathi Bahvan on November 19, Tuesday. T Shivashankeramurthy, Vice Chancellor of Mangalore University received the Award from the President at the function held as part of National Integration Day to commemorate the birth anniversary of late prime minister Indira Gandhi.
The Award consists of a memento, a citation and a cash prize of Rs 2lakhs.Mangalore University is fourth in the row of universities winning Indira Gandhi NSS Award in Karnataka. Earlier, RGUHS, Bangalore University, and UAS Dharwad had received this award. Gananatha Shetty Yekkar, NSS Co-ordinator of Mangalore University was also present.
The ‘NSS Best Plus 2 Council Award for 2012-13’ was conferred on the Directorate of Higher Secondary Education, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, while the ‘Upcoming University Award’ was presented to Kumaun University, Nainital, Uttarakhand.
The Awards are given to educational institutions for their outstanding contributions in the field of NSS which help in the betterment of the society.
