Mangalore, Jan 12, 2013: Offices of Inspector General of Police, Western Range and Commissioner of Police in association with Advocate General’s office organized a workshop on ‘Goonda Act’ at Conference Hall of Commissionerate office on Jan 12, Saturday.
Speaking after inaugurating the event, former High Court Judge B Padmaraj said the Goonda Act has been enforced by the State Government to crack down criminal and social elements engaging in unlawful activities.
Stating that everyone was equal in the eyes of the law, Padmaraj said the court will interfere only when constitutional rights are violated. Courts need to be pro-active at times, in the best interest of the society, he further observed. He regretted the fact that some affluent sections of the society consider themselves above law and that law was meant for only the poorer class.
IGP Prathap Reddy welcomed the guests and gathering.Principal District and Sessions Judge Ashok G Nijagannavar and Sushma Godbole, Joint Secretary(Law and Order), Home Department were present at the inaugural ceremony.
