Mangalore, Jan 11, 2013: World AIDS Day 2013 was observed in Mangalore on January 11, Friday as part of weeklong Viveka Saptaha. The programme held at Ravindra Kala Bhavan of University College was organised by Mangalore University in association with Red Ribbon Colleges affiliated to Mangalore University, District level KSAPS, District Health and Family Welfare Department and District AIDS Prevention and Control Board.
Speaking after inaugurating the event, DC N Prakash said that there was a greater need to create an awareness on AIDS among youth in the backdrop of the increasing number of HIV+ cases reported among youth. The government has chalked out various measures to ensure good treatment to HIV+patients, he added.
Dr Lakshminarayan Bhat, Principal of University College presided over the event. ZP CEO Dr K N Vijayaprakash, DHO Dr O R Srirangappa, KMC blood cell unit Director Dr Poornima, Dr Ramakrishna Rao, Dr Dayanand Naik, Dr Nagaratna K A and Dr Parvathi Appayya participated as the chief guests.
Dr Kishore Kumar, District AIDS Control officer welcomed the guests and delivered the introductory speech.
A blood donation camp was also conducted with assistance of doctors from KMC and Wenlock Hospital.
