Mangalorean Max Rasquinha becomes President of US Lions ClubJune 23: Mangalorean Max Rasquinha was officially sworn in as the 94th President of Houston Down Town Lions Club – the Founders Club, on Tuesday, June 22, 2010. The installation function, which was attended by the District dignitaries and a large gathering of Lions and their spouses, took place at a ceremonious Banquet gathering held at the Vicenzos Italian Grill Restaurant.


Turning sentimental, Max observed in his acceptance speech, “I have come a long long way to be a LION. I have known the LIONs too well for too long for all their humanitarian services throughout the world, including India”.  He assured the club members that he would do his best as President, adding, “I have several dreams relating to the needy causes of the people thru the Lions.  I would like to turn those dreams into realities.”


Houston Down Town Lions Club is a 94 year old Founders Club actively dedicated towards various Youth Leadership programs including the Children’s camp for the physically handicapped, the Eye Bank, and several other philanthropic activities in and around Houston, Texas.


Max who is also an active Toastmaster, and was instrumental in initiating the Toastmasters movement in his hometown Mangalore, said he would also be happy to sponsor a Lions Club for the College Students of Mangalore.


Max Rasquinha is successful Texas-based businessman engaged in supply of equipment for the oil industry. He has spent most of his life abroad in oil industry. However he is a proud Mangalorean and makes it a point to frequently visit Mangalore. Deeply rooted to his hometown, Max is a generous donor for many projects in the city and he has also established many organisations like Mangalore Amateur Speakers Club, Mangalore Quizzing Foundation, International Institute for Public Policy (IIPP) and International Orientation Centre in addition to Winners Club Toastmasters and Mangalore Toastmasters Club, all of which operate out of his family home at Valencia in Mangalore.
