Mangaluru, July 29, 2022: Most of you who have clicked on this story are curious to find out how this is even possible. Right? You might be possibly thinking about how a bride and groom, who died 30 years back, tied the knot after their deaths. Well, this isn’t any kind of a joke because this is part of the Dakshina Kannada tradition.
Anny Arun shared a Twitter thread that has gone crazy viral on social media. He attempts to give netizens a sneak peek into the Dakshina Kannada tradition, where this is pretty prevalent.
Arun starts off by saying that he attended a wedding on July 28 and it was worth writing about for a peculiar reason. Both the bride and groom passed away about 30 years ago and yet their families decided to get them married. If you are one of those scratching your head right now with amazement, you need to read the entire thread.
“I’m attending a wedding today. You might ask why it deserves a tweet. Well, the groom is dead actually. And the bride is dead too. Like about 30 years ago. And their marriage is today. For those who are not accustomed to traditions of Dakshina Kannada, this might sound funny,” Arun wrote.
I reached a bit late and missed the procession. Marriage function already started. First groom brings the ’Dhare Saree’ which should be worn by the bride. They also give enough time for the bride to get dressed! pic.twitter.com/KqHuKhmqnj

He adds, that this is a “serious tradition”, where the families of the deceased bride and groom participate and no children are allowed to witness this union. “For those who die at childbirth, they are usually married off to another child who is deceased during the childbirth. All the customs happen just like any marriage. Two families will go to each other’s house for the engagement,” he added.
It’s no short of a celebration and it is not a somber affair, just in case you are wondering. “There will be marriage procession and finally tying the knots. If you are wondering it’s easy to fix this marriage, hear me out. Recently, the groom’s family rejected a bride because the bride was few years elder to the groom!” he wrote in a subsequent tweet.
He also shared several videos from the wedding where Arun described the rituals taking place.
