Mangaluru, April 29, 2025: A suo motu case has been registered against a doctor from a private hospital in Mangaluru over an alleged anti-national post on social media, triggering widespread outrage, particularly among right-wing groups.
Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal confirmed that the case was filed under Sections 196(1)(a) and 353(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). He stated that the doctor has been served a notice, her mobile phone confiscated, and a formal case registered. The hospital management has since suspended her from duty.
The controversy emerged after the doctor allegedly shared a social media post amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan following the recent Pahalgam attack in Jammu and Kashmir. The post drew sharp criticism from several quarters.
Following a complaint lodged by the hospital’s HR representative, a First Information Report (FIR) was filed at the Pandeshwar police station.
Police investigations into the incident are ongoing.
