Mangaluru, Oct 27, 2024: A man in Mangaluru fell victim to a Rs 50-lakh scam on October 11 after fraudsters impersonated police officers over the phone.

The victim received a call from a person claiming to be Maharashtra Police Sub-Inspector Vinay Kumar, who alleged a harassment complaint was filed against him. When the victim resisted, another individual, posing as CBI officer Akash Kullahari, called with alarming details, including an alleged money-laundering case involving Rs 2 crore in a Mumbai account linked to the victim.

Kullahari convinced the man to handle the matter remotely, advising him to transfer funds to "Shivani Enterprises" to avoid suspicion. Trusting this, the victim transferred Rs 50 lakh on October 19 and shared the transaction details over WhatsApp.

When no refund arrived as promised, and additional demands were made, the victim grew suspicious and reported the case to Kadri Police Station. An investigation is now underway.
