Mangaluru,Feb 20, 2017 : B R Balakrishnan, DG of Income Tax (investigation), Karnataka and Goa region inaugurated the Office of Additional Director of Income Tax (Investigation) today February 20 , Monday at Albuquerque House in Pandeshwar.
Addressing the gathering B.R. Balakrishnan Director General of Income Tax (Investiation) said that Rs 172 crore admitted during search was conducted in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district on February 1 from cooperative institution, individual(s), group, trusts, companies and firms. More than Rs 1,000 crore of amount so admitted by people has come post November 8 decision of the PM to demonetise high value currency. The final figure of undisclosed income will definitely be much higher as the investigation is presently underway and will concluded in two to three months.
On the investigation front, Balakrishnan said the directorate has filed around 160 cases over the last two to three years.Supreme Court has to take stringent view on black money and request the chief justice of Karnataka high court to set up special courts to deal with the pending cases.
