Mangaluru, July 22, 2017 : A video has gone viral with an accompanying message saying it’s of the Municipal Water Tower situated adjacent to Tagore Park crashing due to foul weather. The video depicts a high tower type water tank crashing to the earth with a loud thud and people running helter skelter. People screaming in an unidentifiable language can be heard in the video.
A quick trip to Light House Hill revealed that the local water tank still stands tall in the area.
This is yet another instance of a fake video spreading disinformation. Though the vicinity of the tower shown in the video vaguely resembles that of Tagore Park tank, the local tower is in fact much shorter and wider. Moreover the ropes attached to the water tower in the video makes it apparent that it is deliberately being felled. Such an unprofessional method of bringing down the tank which could potentially hurt bystanders would not have been allowed to be employed in the heart of the city.
A search on YouTube revealed that the video was first uploaded by a user called Funny Viral Videos on 1st July this year. Later it picked up by some Gujarati channels.
Hence it can be speculated that the contents of the video might have occurred in an unidentified rural area in north India.
