Mangaluru/Udupi, January 1, 2025: Coastal Districts Welcome New Year with Festive Enthusiasm.
The coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi ushered in the New Year with vibrant celebrations marked by music, dance, and entertainment. Events began on Tuesday evening across Mangaluru and Udupi, extending late into the night.
Tourists flocked popular beaches like Panambur, Tannirbhavi, Someshwar, and Ullal, with hotels, resorts, and homestays operating at near full capacity. Malpe and Kaup also buzzed with activity as visitors from neighboring districts and states joined the festivities. At the stroke of midnight, the New Year was greeted with cake-cutting ceremonies and dazzling fireworks at various locations.
Special prayers and religious services added a spiritual touch to the celebrations. Temples and mandirs held dedicated prayer sessions, while churches conducted special Eucharistic services. Meanwhile, star hotels and restaurants in Mangaluru hosted exclusive events featuring entertainment, curated menus, and DJ performances, drawing crowds of families and young revelers alike.
Enhanced security measures
To ensure a safe and incident-free New Year, the Mangaluru Police Commissionerate deployed tight security arrangements starting Tuesday evening. Checkpoints were set up to deter drunk driving, and police patrolled key areas throughout the night. Similar measures were enforced in the Udupi district, with personnel stationed at strategic locations to maintain order.
The beaches in Udupi saw a significant influx of visitors as the evening progressed. Celebrations also extended to Udupi and Manipal, where residents and tourists welcomed the New Year with cultural events and cake-cutting ceremonies held in hotels, resorts, and residential complexes.
