Mangaluru: Under trials attack jail staff during inspection; complaint lodged

Mangaluru, January 15, 2025: A case has been registered in Barke police station with regard to an incident wherein under trials attacked jail officials and obstructed them from discharging their duties.

The incident occurred on Monday night when jail officials led by Superintendent M H Ashekan visited the A block cells on suspicion that the under trials possessed banned items. However during the inspection the under trials reportedly attacked the staff by hurling utensils and other objects and also abused the jail staff, the complaint stated.

The murder occurred amidst preparations for Tanu’s wedding, which was scheduled for January 18.

According to the police, Mahesh Gurjar has been arrested and the weapon used in the murder has been seized. Efforts to locate and apprehend Rahul are underway. The police are also reviewing Tanu’s social media accounts.
