Mangaluru: Woman loses ₹7.10 lakh in Facebook message scam, case filed

Mangaluru, March 18, 2025: A case has been registered at the Pandeshwar police station after a woman lost ₹7.10 lakh in a scam by believing a message she received from a Facebook account.

The woman received a "Hi" message from a Facebook account named Dr. Tushar Patil. The sender introduced himself as a neurosurgeon working at U Health Miami, Florida, and claimed that he was divorced with a child. After gaining her trust, he asked for her WhatsApp number and messaged her there.


Scam alert


He told her that, as a token of friendship, he would send her a platinum watch, diamonds, a laptop, an iPhone, $90,000 USD, and gold. He also mentioned that she would receive a call from the airport regarding the gift.

The next day, she received a phone call stating that a gift had arrived from Dr. Tushar Patil. She was asked to transfer money for security deposit and money laundering clearance. Believing the claim, she transferred ₹7.10 lakh to various bank accounts.

However, when she never received the promised gifts, she realized she had been scammed and lodged a complaint at the Pandeshwar police station.
