Mangaluru celebrates 78th Independence Day with patriotic fervor

Mangaluru, August 15, 2024: The 78th Independence Day was celebrated at the Nehru Maidan on August 15, Thursday with great patriotic fervor. Dakshina Kannada District in-charge Minister Dinesh Gundurao hoisted the national tricolor on the occasion.

In his address, the minister spoke on the various developmental initiatives. He said the government has so far provided a total compensation of Rs 1.21 crores to those who suffered losses due to rain related issues.

A new surgical block with 12 modular operation theatres has been constructed at Wenlock Hospital at a cost of Rs 53 crores, he said adding the works of a 35 bed dialysis unit, geriatric ward and cath lab is underway. A 50 bed critical care block has been approved, he added.

The Minister also informed that 1326 honorary teachers have been appointed to the vacant posts in various government primary and high schools.

He said a total of Rs 130 crore has been sanctioned to the 13 local administrative bodies in the district under phase-4 of the Chief Minister’s Amrit Nagarothana scheme.

The minister earlier received a guard of honour. There was an attractive march past on the occasion by students and police.

Mayor Sudhir Shetty Kannur, MP Brijesh Chowta, MLA Vedavyas Kamath, MLC Ivan D’Souza, Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan, Additional DC Dr Santosh Kumar, City Police Commissioner Anupam Agarwal, Western Range IGP Boralingaiah, ZP CEO Dr Anand and others were present.
