Mangaluru mudslide incident: FIR against 3 including contractor, Rs.4 Lakh compensation for deceased’s family

Mangaluru, July 5, 2024: City police have booked three individuals in connection with the death of a migrant laborer at a construction site in Balmatta.
City Police Commissioner Anupam Agarwal stated that building contractor Venugopal, a supervisor, and another person have been charged under BNS sections 105, 125A, and 125B. Venugopal has been taken into custody for questioning.
The Karnataka Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (KBOCWWB) has approved an ex gratia payment of Rs 2 lakh to the family of Chandan Kumar, 30, who died in a mudslide at the construction site on Wednesday.
The labor officer in Mangaluru recommended the ex gratia payment on humanitarian grounds. Additionally, the Building Construction Contractors Association has also announced an ex gratia payment of Rs 2 lakh to Kumar’s family.
