Mangaluru, January 1, 2025: The Kudla Samskrutika Prathistana will hold ‘Mangaluru Street Food Fiesta’, on the road between Lalbagh Circle, Narayana Guru Circle and Canara Urwa Circle, from January 18 and to 22.
Speaking with presspersons on Tuesday, Giridhar Shetty, Prathistana president, said the event was earlier scheduled to be held between January 15 and 19. In light of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s visit to the city on January 17 for inauguration of a State-level sports event at Mangala Stadium, the district administration has asked organisers to postpone the event. “Therefore, the event will be held for five days from January 18,” Mr. Shetty said.
150 stalls
Around 150 stalls showcasing coastal cuisine will be set up on the footpath of the road connecting the three circles. So far, 100 food vendors have registered. Vegetarian and non-vegetarian food stalls will be separate. There will be kids’ corners and ‘selfie’ corners. There will also be ‘Namma Vedike Nimma Prathibhe’ stages at three places where artists will display their singing and dance.
Vehicle parking arrangement will be made at Karavali Utsav grounds, Ladyhill Church and Canara Urwa School grounds.
Stating that the event, which is being held for the third year now, is to promote tourism, Mr. Shetty said this is not a commercial one. The Prathistana has decided to hold the event as part of Dakshina Kannada district administration’s ongoing Karavali Utsava. “We have asked district administration to waive off payment for Mangaluru City Corporation towards land rent for stalls and payment to city police towards security arrangements. Deputy Commissioner M.P. Mullai Muhilan has agreed,” Mr. Shetty said.
The Prathistana had paid ₹20 lakh towards land rent and security charges for second year of the event held last year. It had to pay ₹40 lakh in the first year and ₹28 lakh in the second year of the event to fill the shortfall in the expenses, Mr. Shetty said.
