Mangaluru, Dec 29, 2024: The tragic gas explosion in Khandige, Manjanady village, on December 8, has claimed another life, raising the death toll to three. Nine-year-old Fatimath Maizha, who was undergoing treatment for severe burns at a private hospital, succumbed to her injuries.
The explosion, which engulfed the house in flames while the family was asleep, had earlier claimed the lives of the mother, Kubra, on December 13, and the eldest daughter, Zulekha Mahadiya, on December 26. The sole survivor, Mazhiya, has recovered and been discharged from the hospital.
Preliminary investigations suggest the incident was caused by a gas leak from an additional LPG cylinder stored in the house. While a case has been registered as a suspicious death at Konaje police station, no FIR has been filed against the gas agency. The fire accident report indicates it was an accidental mishap, and the deputy commissioner has collected reports from all relevant departments.
Karnataka Legislative Assembly Speaker U.T. Khader visited the affected house on Saturday, expressing profound sorrow over the tragedy. He stressed the need for compassion and humanity in times of such distress.
The visit was attended by assistant commissioner Harshavardhan, ACP Dhanya M Nayak, HP Gas marketing division manager Rahul, tahsildar Puttaraju, and local leaders, including NS Kareem, Monu Kalkatta, KP Ashraf, Ashraf Katte, and Rafiq Kalkatta.
