Mangalore Aug 29: Deputy Commissioner of Excise Department Noor Mohammed Hussain, who is to retire after 35 years of fruitful public service on September 31, expressed his concern over the increased consumption of alcohol in the district.
Expressing his opinions after a felicitation programme organized by the Manjunath Friends Circle, Kadri in his honour at Dinky Dine Hall on the evening of Aug 29, Sunday, he said that he had witnessed the destruction of thousands of families during his service and urged excise officials to work hard for social welfare.
Senior journalist Harish Rai spoke about the need to strengthen the excise department to curb alcoholism. MLA Yogish Bhat and Chairman of the Coastal Development Authority B. Nagaraj Shetty lauded Mr. Hussain for his excellent 35 years of service.
District-in-charge Minister Krishna J. Palemar said in his presidential address that officials such as Mr. Hussain are the assets of the country and urged all excise officials to follow in Mr. Hussain’s footsteps.
President of the Circle Edward D’Souza and Corporators Madhusoodhan and Roopa D. Bangera were also present during the programme.
