Millennium’s longest solar eclipse as seen in Mangalore

Mangalore, January 15: The people of Mangalore had chance to see the longest solar eclipse of the Millennium today.
 
Prof Jayanth, the head of the department of Chemistry, St Agnes College, arranged for students to watch the beauty of this natural phenomenon. A telescope was used to view the reflection of the solar eclipse on white sheets. A large number of students as well as the general public got a rare opportunity to view the solar eclipse. Artificial glasses made of miler polymeric coated with aluminum were available at the venue to view the solar eclipse.

Prof Jayanth said that the effects of the solar eclipse will be felt between 11:07 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.; however, these effects will not harm anybody. The solar eclipse will undergo changes as per the movements of the sun and moon, he said. The eclipse does not cause skin diseases, he said; however, looking at it with naked eyes for a long time is not healthy for the eyes. You can work and have food as usual, he said.
