Mangalore, Sep 19: Speaking at a meeting of MCC officials and builders and engineers’ association held at the Nethravathi Hall of the Zilla Panchayat today, District-in-charge Minister Krishna J. Palemar stressed the need to complete all the pending development projects launched within the city on time so that new proposals for further development can be submitted to the state government.
He urged builders, contractors, engineers, and designers to renovate and beautify the 45-km stretch of road within MCC limits and bring it to international standards.
The meeting had a 2-point agenda—one, to convey the message of giving back to society what one has got from it and two, to foster development based on coordination and cooperation.
The 15 representatives who participated in this meeting requested one week to arrive at a decision and urged the minister to help them implement the concept of “own your road, own your park” in which an engineer will monitor the development of every 1km of road.
While Sanath of SKS Builders said that he will develop the road stretch from KPT to Padua and bring it to international standards according to the minister’s guidance, K. C. Naik, the president of CREDAI, said that he will cooperate with road improvement projects in the city. The members of the engineers’ association promised technical assistance whenever required. Siraj of Inland Builders said that the MCC needs to cooperate more with the builders.
Vijay Mayya, the president of Consultant Civil Engineers’ Association, and Rohan Monteiro of Property Infra Pvt. Ltd. were also present. Stating that they have excellent architects and engineers, they promised to support the PPP method.
The minister also urged them to give top priority to road development within the city and urged them to make all information regarding road development available online. He also urged the media to assist in development projects.
Issues such as advertisement hoardings, solid waste management, and others were also discussed. It was suggested that those who provide information regarding people who throw rubbish in public places should be given a reward of Rs. 10,000 while those who provide information regarding people who fill ponds with soil should be given a reward ranging from Rs. 1000 to Rs. 10,000. The minister approved of the suggestion and said that orders to bring these suggestions into effect will be passed soon.
Speaking on the occasion, N. Yogish Bhat, the state assembly deputy speaker, said that Rs. 200 crore has been earmarked for the development of Mangalore.
Mayor Praveen Anchan, DC Dr. N. S. Channappa Gowda, and ZP CEO Dr. K. N. Vijayaprakash were also present.
Another meeting is scheduled to be held in the DC’s office at 10:00 a.m. the following Monday.
