DK/ Udupi, June 12: The monsoons have finally arrived in the twin districts of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada on Friday. Usually, the monsoons set in during the last week of May or the first week of June; but the rains were delayed this year. The citizens of Mangalore are definitely relieved, especially since it rained all day yesterday.
The lack of storm water drains in the city has already created artificial flooding, especially from Polali to BC Road, leading to a traffic block for nearly 30 minutes. The Kateel bus stand was filled with slush; and there was a landslide along the hill on which the Kuloor Church is located. The Public Works Department (PWD) has already begun de-clogging the drains along Moodubidri - Mulky road.
The farmers have begun their agricultural activities in Pavanje, Bappanadu, Chitrapu, Talipadi, Kodetur, Aikala, Ekkar, and Pakshikere.
Udupi witnessed moderate rainfall with sunshine, owing to which the farmers have to wait.
Hemalatha, the deputy commissioner of Udupi, urged fishermen not to engage in fishing activities for 2 more days.
