Udupi, Feb 2, 2013 : Udupi : Congress leaders have strongly condemned the two moral policing incidents reported from Mangalore even as the party was on a padayatra from Ullal to Malpe to promote communal amity and to focus on the misrule of the BJP government.
Addressing the valedictory function of the four day Padayatra which culminated at Malpe on February 1 Friday, KPCC President Dr G Parameshwar and senior Congress leader Siddaramiah said “ Community amity has become a thing of past. Young men and women cannot have coffee together in hotels and also cannot travel in buses and cars.
There have been two moral policing incidents in Mangalore when the Padayatra was in progress. Who gave the Bhajrangdal the right to resort to moral policing ?” they questioned.
“ The Congress would launch a movement if the Bhajrangdal does not shun moral policing. We have organised this Padayatra to show that we are with the people of the coastal districts,” said Siddaramaiah.
KPCC President Dr G Parameshwar charged the State government of claiming the Central Government schemes as its own,. It has failed to released funds to educational institutions, but has distributed poor quality sarees to women and cycles to students, he made a mockery of the government.
AICC General Secretary Oscar Fernandes who also spoke said only the Congress can ensure social equality and urged the people to vote the Congress to power.
Udupi District Congress President Gopal Poojari, Block Congress President Pramod Madhwaraj, senior leaders Janardhan Poojari, CM Ibrahim, MP Jayaprakash Hegde, Legislators Gopal Bhandari, UT Khader, Abhayachandra Jain, party leaders Ivan D’Souza, MA Gafur, Vijaykumar Shetty, BA Moidin and others were present.
