Mangalore, June 8, 2024: All commercial, industrial, and business enterprises, trusts, consultation centers, hospitals, laboratories, entertainment centers, and hotels operating in the state are required to display 60% of their signage in Kannada.
Therefore, business owners within the Mangalore City Corporation limits must ensure that 60% of their business signs are in Kannada. This condition is mandatory for obtaining a business license. Compliance with this requirement will be checked during the renewal or issuance of new business licenses.
Some business owners have been reported by the public for violating this rule by putting up signs in English. The authorities are taking these complaints seriously. Consequently, all business owners within the corporation limits are required to prominently use Kannada on their business signs. Failure to comply will result in the business license being revoked without prior notice, as stated by the Commissioner of the Mangalore City Corporation in an announcement.
