Municipal workers stage protest; urge fulfilment of demands

Mangaluru, July 02, 2022: Municipal workers staged a protest in front of the DC office here on July 1, Friday demanding  the regularisation of the services of  hundreds of municipal workers and drivers of  garbage vehicles who have been working on contract basis in the city corporation as well as various local administrative bodies in the district. The protest was organised by the DK District Municipal Workers and Fourth Division Employees Association.

 

The protestors demanded that the NPS implemented for permanent municipal workers from 2006 must be abolished and the old pension system must be continued. They demanded educational aid for the children of municipal workers. Alleging that the 4 acre land meant for municipal workers at Pachanady has been encroached, they said the same must be vacated and  that houses must be constructed to municipal workers in the land reserved for them  at Ekkur.

Municipal Workers’ Association State General Secretary Srinivas G, Fourth Division Employees Association District President Anil Kankanady,Mangaluru Safai Karmachari Association President Narayan Shetty and others spoke.
