Mangalore, Aug 7: The National Insurance Company (NIC) was recently pulled up by activists of Tulunadu Rakshana Sene for refusing to pay the hospital bills of one of its clients, who had purchased Vipul Medcard, its health insurance card.
Sathish Shriyan (50) had purchased a Vipul Medcard through the Trawl Boat Ice Plant, where he works. He was injured on duty a year back and began getting pains even after he was discharged from the hospital. On July 22, he was admitted to KMC Hospital at Ambedkar Circle and received treatment for 16 days. The hospital bills, excluding medication, came up to Rs. 76,000. However, when he approached NIC, the company refused to pay up.
The harassed client immediately informed the media that, although he was medically insured, the company was refusing to pay the hospital bills. He had to seek the help of Tulunadu Rakshana Sene to obtain relief when he could not receive his insurance money.
Activisits of Tulunadu Rakshana Sene, including Yogish Shetty, visited the NIC offices to enquiry about the case. Shashidhar Rao, the manager of NIC, assured the activists that Mr. Shriyan’s medical bills will be paid at the earliest possible.
