Derelakatte, August 21, 2024: The NSS Unit of K S Hegde Medical Academy (KSHEMA) and the Department of Hospital Administration and Health Systems Management, in collaboration with the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), organized a comprehensive workshop on "Disaster Response and Rescue" at Chinthana Hall, Justice K S Hegde Charitable Hospital, Derelakatte.

The event was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Jayaprakash Shetty, In-charge Dean of KSHEMA, who highlighted the crucial role of preparedness in minimizing disaster impacts. Mr. Vijay Kumar, District Disaster Management Officer of Dakshina Kannada, led the opening session with an in-depth discussion on disaster management. His presentation covered the various types of disasters, identification of vulnerable areas, disaster management techniques, government initiatives, and the importance of disaster helplines.

A live demonstration by the NDRF team, led by Inspector and Team Commander Mr. Shanthilal Jatia, followed. The team showcased practical rescue techniques, emphasizing how to effectively respond to disasters using everyday items. This hands-on session provided valuable insights into real-world disaster response strategies.

The workshop attracted active participation from KSHEMA postgraduate students, enhancing their understanding of disaster response—a critical competency for future healthcare professionals. Dr. Fathima D. Silva and Mrs. Anshya Rai also contributed to the event’s success, with Dr. Varsha Shetty ensuring smooth coordination as the program moderator.
