Nalin Kumar Kateel urges youth to follow Swami Vivekananda

Mangalore, Jan 12: MP Nalin Kumar Kateel inaugurated the National Youth Day organized as part of the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda and the district-level folk art variety programme at Town Hall on Jan 12, Wednesday. The programme was jointly organized by Nehru Yuva Kendra, Mangalore; NSS Mangalore University; and Shri Mahalingeshwar Daya Friends Circle, Adyar.

In his inaugural address, the MP said that Swami Vivekananda undertook a long March traversing through hundred of cities, thousands of villages and meeting millions of people enroute only to inspire them to ’strive to their utmost to remove their miseries and sufferings of the downtrodden.’ He said the spirit of brotherly love for religion, nation, and God made Swami Vivekananda adore India and urged the younger generation to walk in his footsteps. Mr. Kateel said that, deeply moved by the poverty and backwardness of the masses, Swami Vivekananda formulated a definite philosophy of service and organized large-scale social service to remove people from the darkness of poverty. Stating that the youth of today are better able to understand the importance of peace, brotherhood, and love, he said that this has caused a reduction in involvement in strikes, stone pelting, and boycott, which is a very good movement.


DK District Kannada Sahithya Parishad President S. Pradeep Kumar Kalkura presided over the programme. Purushottam Bhandary, the owner of Tyre Care Adyar, and Rtn. Anand Shetty, the owner of Anand Trades, Adyar were the chief guests. Sudhakar Adyar, the president of Shri Mahalingeshwara Daya Friends Circle, delivered the welcome address; and Coordinator of NSS Mangalore University Dr. Ganapathy Yekkar delivered the keynote address.

 
Brahmakumari Usharajayogini, the coordinator of Eshwari Vidyalaya, spoke on the topic “Youth and Civil Values”; and renowned Mangalore-based artist Dinesh Holla spoke on “Folk and Cultural Values among Youth.”


Karavali Yuvaka Yuvathi Vrinda Hejamady and Chaithanya Mithra Mandali Kalyahalekatte presented a folk variety programme, while Vishnumoorthy of Nehru Yuva Kendra delivered the vote of thanks.
