Rajiv Satav, the president of IYC, addressed the gathering and said that change is the need of the hour, declaring that only Indian youth can bring about change by actively participating in politics. Urging young people to join the Youth Congress, which is open to people of all castes, creeds, communities, and religions, Mr. Satav once again declared that the power of the youth is essential in order to change Indian politics.

Criticizing the BJP-led state government, he said that the state, which once occupied the number one position in development, science, and technology, is now occupying the number one position in corruption, thanks to the corrupt Yeddyurappa government. Criticizing the BJP high command for its support of the state government, he said that the BJP high command, which was advocating a change in leadership, changed its mind after a closed-door meeting with Yeddyurappa in New Delhi. He also voiced his suspicions that the CM might have threatened the high command that he will reveal their secrets if they dared to advocate change in leadership.

Speaking on the occasion, Jithendra Singh, the secretary of AICC and in-charge of IYC, said that cleansing Indian politics of corruption is impossible if honest young people refrain from joining politics. Stating that only the BJP, which is bursting at the seams with corrupt ministers, is happy with the current system, he said that everybody desires change, adding that change is possible only when honest young people join politics and rejuvenate the spirit of democracy.

Speaking in appreciation of Rahul Gandhi, the general secretary of AICC, for changing the election process within the party, he said that this positive change will be adopted all over the country in future.

Baire Gowda, the president of the Pradesh Youth Congress, urged party workers to attract youth during its membership drive, which will soon be launched in Karnataka.

Shanimole Usman, the in-charge of the IYC membership drive in the state; B. Janardhan Poojary, the president of DKCC; B. Ramanath Rai; and MLA U. T. Khader, along with a number of Congress leaders participated in the convention.

A motor vehicle rally from Mangalore to Thokkottu Grounds marked the beginning of the convention.
