Mangalore Feb 27: State sports and youth affairs and textiles minister Goolihatti Shekar has mulled over setting up of new awards for achievers, who were failed to receive national recognition for their outstanding achievements in their respected sports field.
He was interacting with the media persons at Mangala stadium on February 27. He said that the outstanding personalities in sports and games should be honoured at the state level as they miss out on the national level recognition.
He conversed about setting up of new award parallel to Ekalavya award. He will discuss the issue related to this later, he said. The ’Chief ministers’ award should be conferred to outstanding sports personalities, every year. The criteria for the award should include recognition at the district-level, from the public and media.
Meanwhile, he revealed about making Mangalore as sports city, next only to Bangalore. The work on synthetic track at the stadium will be started soon. He also planned for another swimming pool for the city.
Mangalore south MLA N Yogish Bhat and members from sports associations including Naveen Shetty accompanied the minister on his visit.
