Kundapura, December 11, 2024: A charitable eye hospital that could redefine the healthcare fortunes of Kundapura and neighbouring areas has become a reality. Charmakki Narayana Shetty Memorial Eye Hospital in Shankaranarayana, Kundapura, that will offer world class facilities free of cost, was inaugurated on Sunday. It will be operated and managed by Narayana Netralaya.
The elaborate facility has an Eye Hospital and a Primary Health Centre as part of its offerings. The hospital provides state-of-the-art equipment and renowned health care professionals committed to maintaining the highest standards of care.
The establishment of an Eye Hospital in Shankaranarayana was originally conceived by Dr. N. Sitaram Shetty, Executive Chairman of Shankaranarayana Constructions (SNC) Private Limited under their CSR initiative. This vision was significantly supported by his elder brother, the late Dr. Bhujang Shetty, founder of the Narayana Nethralaya Group of Hospitals. Mr. Alok Shetty, Managing Director of Bhoomiputra Architecture and son of Executive Chairman Dr. N Sitaram Shetty, is the architect responsible for designing this hospital building.
Inauguration of the hospital marks the 100th birth Anniversary of SNC’s visionary founder, Mr. C. Narayana Shetty. “The hospital is a testament to his enduring legacy of social responsibility,” said Dr. N Sitaram Shetty- Executive Chairman, SNC. “Residents are encouraged to utilize this no-cost, high-quality healthcare to support a healthier future for themselves and the community,” the chairman said, after inaugurating the hospital on Sunday in the august presence of healthcare legends Dr. Devi Prasad Shetty- Chairman Narayana Health, Dr H Sudarshan Ballal, Chairman - Manipal Hospitals, Manipal Health Enterprises Pvt Ltd and other distinguished guests.
The eye hospital, which is a critical feature of the comprehensive facility, will offer completely free cataract surgeries. It is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities designed to deliver the highest standard of eye care. Two ultra-modern operation theaters capable of performing up to 70,000 cataract surgeries annually have been set up. Phaco cataract surgeries will be performed using high-performance, imported phaco machines for superior outcomes.
The Primary Health Care Centre at the hospital is looking to improve healthcare access in the region by offering free consultations, vaccinations, lab tests, and minor injury care.
With no cash counters, all services are provided free of cost at the hospital ensuring that healthcare is available to everyone in the community. To raise awareness and promote the use of these essential services, outreach programs and interactive sessions are being conducted to educate villagers on the importance of vaccinations, preventive care, and proper healthcare utilization.
