Mangalore, Jan 11,2013: Lakshadweep MP Hamdulla Sayeed has informed that the Lakshadweep administration has already sent a draft proposal to the Karnataka Government with regard to constructing a new wharf at old Mangalore Port.
Speaking to press persons during his visit to old port at Bunder on January 10, Thursday, Sayeed said the new wharf would benefit passengers travelling on the Lakshadweep –Mangalore route, while also facilitating freight to and from Lakshadweep. He said as per the proposal, the cost of the Wharf, i.e Rs 44.5 crore will have to be borne by the Karnataka and Lakshadweep administrations.
Sayeed also said a 2.5 acre land has been identified at Hoigebazar to construct a commercial complex as well as accommodation which would benefit Lakshadweep people coming to Mangalore. He said talks have already been held with the authorities concerned in this regard and added the proposed projects when implemented would strengthen relationship between Lakshadweep and Mangalore.
UT Khader, MLA, R Mohan,Director of old port, Ravindra, Deputy Director of Mines Department, Congress leaders including Ivan D’Souza, Ashraf, Mithun Rai were present.
