Mangaluru, April 25, 2025: The First Additional District and Sessions Court of Mangaluru has acquitted Shekhar Shetty, the accused in the case of murdering a woman of Niddodi.
The incident had taken place on January 2016. Revathi who had left home saying she would go to Niddodi had not returned following which her elder brother Thimmappa had lodged a complaint and expressed doubts over Shekhar Shetty of Shuntilapadavu. Meanwhile Shekhar Shetty too had gone missing and his wife had lodged a complaint.
Later on January 18, Shekhar appeared at the police station and admitted that he had killed Revathi. He also revealed that he and Revathi had a friendly relationship and he used to secure loans by pledging jewellery of Revathi whenever he was in need of money. It is learnt Revathi was pressurizing Shekhar to return one of her gold chains which she had given to him to avail loan. Owing to this reason, Shekhar took her to an isolated spot on January 12 that year and had reportedly killed her.
The court which heard both the parties did not find sufficient evidence to convict the accused and acquitted the accused on the grounds that the prosecution failed to prove the guilt of the accused.
