Mangaluru, February 19, 2025: In line with the direction of Ministry of Education, Govt.of India, Nitte Deemed to be University centre for Indian Knowledge Systems (Nitte DU center for IKS) was established and inaugurated by Srimadjagadguru Shankaracharya Sri Sri Raghaveshvara Swamiji of Ramachandrapura Mutt, on 19th Feb.2025.
Sri Vinaya Hegde chancellor of the university presided over the function. Pro-Chancellor Prof. Shantharam Shetty explained about the importance of promoting Indian culture and ancient knowledge systems.
Prof. M. S. Moodithaya, vice- chancellor welcomed the gathering . Swamiji blessed the center and wished many more such centers to be active and functional to preserve and promogate various value systems of ancient India.
The main vision of the centre is to promote interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research on all aspects of IKS, preserve and disseminate a deeper understanding and appreciation of IKS for further research, and societal applications.
The effective implementation of the Indian Knowledge System (IKS) involves a comprehensive approach that integrates traditional wisdom, modern scientific advancements, and cultural practices to address contemporary challenges. A few strategies for effective implementation:
1. Curriculum Integration: Introduce Indian knowledge systems into mainstream education by integrating them into curricula across disciplines like philosophy, history, social sciences, engineering, and medicine. This can include the study of ancient
2. Research and Documentation: Encourage interdisciplinary research to document, analyze, and validate traditional knowledge, practices, and methodologies. collaborate to preserve and modernize this knowledge base.
3. Public Awareness Campaigns: Raise public awareness about the value and relevance of the Indian Knowledge System in solving contemporary issues like sustainability, health, and mental well-being.
4. Policy Support: Government policies should support the incorporation of IKS in higher education, research, and development programs.
5. Technology Integration: Leverage modern technology, including AI and data analytics, to digitize and make traditional knowledge accessible to a global audience.
6. Community Engagement: Encourage local communities, especially in rural and tribal areas, to continue practising and preserving traditional knowledge.
7. Global Collaboration: Engage with international platforms and academic institutions to promote and share the value of the Indian Knowledge system globally.
