Nitte DU launches new four-year Bachelor’s degree programs

Mangaluru, Jun 30, 2021: Nitte (Deemed to be University) is launching new-age four-year Bachelor’s programs in Biomedical Sciences and Media & Communication. These new programs embody the principles of student-centric, multidisciplinary and employment-oriented education that is envisaged in the National Education Policy of 2020, said Dr. Satheesh Kumar Bhandary, Vice Chancellor of Nitte (Deemed to be University) in a Press Conference.

The four year BSc with Honors and BA with Honors programs are in line with international trends and will have greater global recognition. Students will have multiple entry and exit options so that they can earn appropriate credit and certifications for their learning. For example, students can leave at the end of three years with a BSc / BA degree or continue to complete the fourth year of the program with a honors degree. The additional year of training emphasizes development of research and employability skills with projects and internships. These programs are future-ready and will be compatible with lateral entry options and exit options as indicated by the new National Education Policy. Both programs will be based on the Choice Based Credit System which will enable students to pursue their interests through elective subjects in addition to the core areas of study.

The BSc (Honors) in Biological Sciences will offer hands-on training in contemporary laboratory technologies which will be crucial forbothstudents seeking better employment prospects and for those planning for advanced studies. The Nitte University Centre for Science and Education, which is offering this program has state-of-the-art facilities for biomedical research, it benefits from its association with the Justice KS Hegde Hospital, which provides unique opportunities for applied research and hospital-related training opportunities for students of the program.

The BA (Honors) in Media and Communication offers a contemporary curriculum with focus on new-age media as well as corporate communication. It includes courses in emerging areas of interest such as Arts and Culture Communication, Social Media Marketing, Data Journalism, Media Histrionics and Peace Journalism. The Nitte Institute of Communication which offers this program has in-house facilities for training in media production and broadcast. The program is focused on developing industry-relevant employability skills, said Dr. Bhandary.
