In a statement, Narayan, who holds the higher education portfolio, said that the focus is to vaccinate students aged above 18 against Covid-19 before reopening the colleges to make sure that the student population of the state is safe.

The schools and colleges in Karnataka have been closed since March 2020 in view of the rapid spread of the Covid-19 pandemic in the state. All academic activities and classes are being conducted online for the time being.

Vaccination for college students

Last month, the Karnataka government decided to vaccinate all the students in colleges and universities in an effort to facilitate the reopening of educational institutes and the resumption of physical classes after over one year.

Earlier, Deputy CM Narayan had set a deadline for all the vice-chancellors to vaccinate all the degree college students, who are above 18 years of age, by July 7, so that the institutes can reopen from August with several Covid-19 guidelines in place.

C N Ashwath Narayan said that 65 percent of students in government institutions and aided institutions have been vaccinated.
