Old Netravati Bridge to be closed for traffic for a month to facilitate repair and restoration

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, April 1, 2025: The old Netravathi Bridge on Kochi-Panvel National Highway 66 off Mangaluru that facilitates vehicular movement from Talapady towards Mangaluru will be closed for traffic for a month from April 1 (Tuesday) as the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is set to take up its rehabilitation work.

During the closure of the old bridge, vehicles will move on the new bridge where two-way movement will be permitted, Mangaluru City Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal said in a press release here.

Netravathi bridge work

An NHAI officer said, as part of the rehabilitation work of the old bridge, girders will be lifted and related nuts will be re-calibrated. Potholes on the carriageway will be filled and there will be asphalt coating, the officer said.

Because of the two-way movement, Mr. Agrawal said, there could be a possibility of traffic congestion on the highway between Thokkottu and Pumpwell. He urged drivers and riders of all vehicles, as well as the public, to drive on the stretch with caution to avoid accidents. Motorists were asked avoid the route during peak hours.

The traffic police have reopened the highway median near Adam Kudru, that was closed earlier to facilitate total road renewal, to allow traffic diversion. Vehicles from Kasargod/ Thokkottu would be diverted towards the new bridge through this opening, said a police officer.

Alternative roads

Mr. Agrawal said light motor vehicles coming to the city from Mudipu, Konaje and Deralakatte and visa-versa may use the Konaje-Harekala (bridge)-Adyar route to join Bengaluru-Mangaluru National Highway 75. Similarly, vehicles going from Talapady and Ullal towards Bengaluru, Uppinangady, Puttur and Sullia, and those coming to Talapady and Kerala from B.C. Road, may use the Mudipu-Boliyar-Melkar route, the Police Commissioner stated.
