Mangaluru, August 6, 2023: Mangaluru Junction Railway Station witnessed the inauguration of development works under the Central Government’s Amrit Bharat Station Scheme with an investment of INR 19.32 crore on Sunday. The Prime Minister is virtually laid the foundation stone for redevelopment of Mangaluru Junction station along with 508 railway stations across the country.
The event held at the premises of Mangaluru Junction Railway Station was inaugurated by Member of Parliament Nalin Kumar Kateel.
During his speech, Nalin Kumar Kateel highlighted that Mangaluru has received significant funding for railway development in the past 9 years. The Mangalore Junction has now become an internationally rated advanced railway station. He also informed that Bantwal and Subrahmanya railway stations have also undergone significant improvements.
Various dignitaries, including Vedavyas Kamath (MLA, Mangaluru South), Dr. Bharath Shetty (MLA, Mangaluru North), Bagirrathi Murulua (MLA, Sullia), MLC Koti Srinivas Poojari, Pratap Simha Nayak, Mangalore Mayor Jayanand, Deputy Mayor Purnima, and local corporator Shoba Poojary were present at the event.
Speaking after laying the foundation stone PM Modi said "India, which is heading towards the goal of being developed, is at the beginning of its Amrit Kaal. There is new energy, new inspiration and new resolutions and in this spirit, a new chapter is beginning in the history of Indian Railways".
The upgradation work will be completed within a period of two years, Modi said during a video conferencing programme today.
Railway stations in Karnataka includes Kalaburgi, Ballari, Belagavi, Bidar, Dakshina Kannada, Davanagere, Dharwad, Hassan, Gadag and Koppal districts are set to get a mega makeover as part of the central government’s Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS)
The redevelopment, which will cost Rs 24,470 crore, will provide modern passenger amenities along with ensuring well designed traffic circulation, inter-modal integration and well designed signage for guidance of passengers, the PMO had said in a statement, adding that the design of station buildings will be inspired by local culture, heritage and architecture.
“The redevelopment will revolutionize how rail infrastructure is imagined in our nation. It will boost ‘Ease of Living’ and enhance comfort and convenience. He added that special care has also been taken to ensure the stations align with local culture, heritage, and architecture.
The list of stations in India to be revamped includes 55 in Uttar Pradesh, 49 in Bihar, 44 in Maharashtra, 37 in West Bengal, 34 in Madhya Pradesh, 32 in Assam, 25 in Odisha, 22 in Punjab, 21 each in Gujarat and Telangana, 20 in Jharkhand, 18 each in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, 15 in Haryana and 13 in Karnataka.
