Mangaluru, May 12, 2024: The Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat High School in Harekala, famously associated with Padma Shri recipient Harekala Hajabba, is gearing up to inaugurate its inaugural batch of PU courses starting June 1.
Several months back, the government had issued an order to elevate the government school established by Padma Shri awardee Harekala Hajabba into a PU College. Subsequently, the School Education and Literacy Department (PU Education) followed suit with an official directive for the school’s upgrade.
According to CD Jayanna, deputy director of PU Education, all necessary clearances have been obtained from the government to initiate PU classes. "Hajabba’s school is set to kick off its first batch of PU classes on June 1. A senior lecturer has been appointed as the in-charge principal for the PU college. While the school currently possesses the temporary infrastructure required for the I PU batch, plans are underway to enhance infrastructure for the PU college in the future. Presently, the school boasts adequate classrooms and facilities to initiate PU classes," remarked Jayanna.
Harekala Hajabba, known for his humble origins as an orange seller and the prestigious Padma Shri Award recipient in 2020, established the school in his village, New Padpu in Harekala, approximately 35 km from Mangaluru. He had persistently appealed to the government for the establishment of a PU college over the past several years.
